REACTIVE BOWL WORKSHOP

Starting with a circle of glass, students will look first at the overall shape that they want to produce, then then will decide on the reactive colours that they want to use. The workshop looks carefully at the reactions that occur between the three main groups of reactive glasses (Lead bearing, Copper bearing, and Sulphur / Selenium bearing). Students get to choose the glasses that they want to use and then apply these to their glass circle. Various techniques are talked about to get the required reactions. Finally the work is put into the kiln for firing and slumping.

You begin with a 29cm circle of sheet glass and a selection of glass colours to work with.

The class uses clear sheet glass and glass powders. It also introduces slumping of the fused glass.

The workshop is suitable for beginners.
